The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, raises money for the fight against women's cancers. The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away in 2009. In her 38 years as a head coach at the college-level, Yow was one of only six Division I head women's basketball coaches to achieve 700 career victories. Yow was also the head coach of the 1988 US Olympic Team that won the gold medal in Seoul
The home game for the Mustangs will be an exciting one as the DGS Pep Band will entertain the anticipated large crowd for the two conference rivals. In addition, there will be a special half-time performance by members of the 2011 Chicago AFL Adrenaline Rush Dancers.
As part of our fund raising activities we raffle gift baskets containing donated merchandise and services from local merchants and organizations. If you would like to help the DGS Girls Basketball Boost-Hers program raise money for the fight against cancer, then please contact Dan Stanger by January 16th and arrangements will be made to collect your donation. Last year’s Shoot For A Cure event was a huge success as it was attended by over 800 fans and raised over $3,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
To show our appreciation for your donation, the name of your business or organization will be announced during the game, included on all of our displays, and mentioned in the local newspapers when we publicly thank those who supported the girls’ efforts.
